Diorio Collection 1986 Environmental Arbutus w/Earth Spirits Paperweight
This unique 1986 "Environmental Arbutus with Earth Spirits Paperweight" from the Diorio Collection is 3 1/8" in diameter. It has vivid orange Arbutus blossoms with yellow stamens, green mottled leaves, buds (in various stages of development), seed pods, and berries. The underside offers light tan human figures, roots, and stylized fruit with blossoms on a sandy rust and black ground. The entire work is encased in very clear crystal.

This paperweight is signed "Paul J. Stankard," and marked A176 '86. It shows development of the Earth Spirits (or human forms) Stankard has become famous for creating. It also shows innovative designs on the top and underside symbolizing life above and below the Earth.
