PAUL J. STANKARD EARLY WORKS

THE ARTIST
SELECTED BIOGRAPHY

Paul J. Stankard was born on April 7, 1943, in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. He spent his childhood in this rural community, and enjoyed frequent walks in the beautiful surroundings. This is what led to Paul's strong connection with nature. Paul and his family moved to Wenonah, New Jersey in 1958.

Paul began his professional glass blowing career in 1963, when he graduated from Salem County Vocational Technical Institute in Carneys Point, New Jersey. He received a diploma in Scientific Glassblowing Technology. Paul worked in that industry for approximately nine years making glass objects for laboratory use.

In 1972, Paul decided to change his career from scientific glassblowing to creative glassblowing. This was prompted by his love of nature, and desire to replicate it in glass art objects.

Over time, Paul has developed his skill and improved the quality of his crystal and colored glass to the point where objects like flowers, bees, and other creations take on a lifelike appearance. The completed works are truly breathtaking.

Paul's works have evolved to the level where he is considered one of the true masters in the art community. His works are on exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute, and other prestigious museums throughout the world (Click Here for a Complete List).

Paul's contemporary works include Orbs and Botanicals. These pieces make it possible to see his intricate workmanship from many different angles -- something that is not possible with conventional paperweight styles.

Paul currently works at his studio in Mantua, New Jersey.
